SUMMARY:Microorganisms are allies: Microbial biodiversity preservation, exploration and valorisation for a sustainable future
DESCRIPTION:As an actor in the research and innovation ecosystem in Europe, one of IS_MIRRI21 and MIRRI’s aims is to reach out to the various members of the society to investigate and bring recognition to the value of microorganisms in our lives. In light of this, this webinar is meant to show what sustainability means and how microorganisms play a role in this process. The webinar is an impactful short info-session on the concept of biodiversity, its relevance and how humans use culture collections to preserve it. \nThe one-hour webinar will be presented by partners and experts from the IS_MIRRI21 project with backgrounds in microbiology and biotechnology who will convey the messages based on their field and professional experiences. The event will be a combination of presentations, quizzes and videos with dedicated sessions for the audiences to ask questions and interact with the speakers. \nThe key objectives of the event are: \n\nPresent how EU funded projects such as IS_MIRRI21 are supporting the research and innovation ecosystem;\nGive an overall overview of how culture collections are used to preserve biodiversity and the roles of microbes in the sustainability of the environment; \nDiscuss how microorganisms can be used by each and every citizen to create a sustainable world.  \n\n \nWho can come?\nThe webinar is open to all! \nIf you are a student, teacher, parent, guardian, educator or just a microbe enthusiast, the session will be an eye-opener to the world of sustainability, biodiversity and preservation of microbial life.  \n \nAgenda\n11:00 | Welcome and introduction to speakers\nTedora Aibu (SPI)\n11:05 | Demo session: Microbiome and Microorganisms for a Sustainable World\nAnna Poli (UNITO)\n11:20 | Let’s play: Quiz on microbial biodiversity and sustainability\nGiulia (INRAE), Anna Poli (UNITO), Tedora Aibu (SPI)\n11:30 | Who we are and what we do in IS_MIRRI21/MIRRI\nTedora Aibu (SPI)\n11:35 | Culture collections and their role in  microbial biodiversity preservation and exploration \nGiulia Cheloni (INRAE)\n11:45 | Open floor: Q&A\n11:55 |  | Closing\n \nRegistration\nRegistration for the webinar is free but compulsory in order to receive the links and updates prior to the event.
